Security, ethics and penny auctions, oh my!

April 3rd, 2009

We are excited to announce that Zoozle’s second grand opening is today!  After being down for a month, redeveloping the software and moving to a new beefed up server, we are back in business to bring you the most fun auction site you’ve ever seen!  In order to inform you about security risks and possible scams from our competitors, we are providing extra detail about the problems we encountered.  The problems with the software we purchased from www.FeistySites.com were a lot more serious than we initially thought.

Once we popped open the hood, we quickly found SEVERAL major security holes that required immediate attention.  This cemented our gut feeling that the development team at FeistySites did not have the sophistication required to solve the complex problems they had created, so we hired our own internal development team.  Over the next few weeks we hacked away at the gruesome code and managed to get the site a lot more efficient, secure, usable, and production ready.

It is clear that the auction software provided by FeistySites.com is far from production ready–for honest auctions that is.  It seems that most sites that run their software are using the “Auto Bidders” feature that allows the site operator to cunningly shill bid their own auctions (aka. using “bots” to automatically bid against you).  The documentation provided from FeistySites actually RECOMMENDS to use Auto-Bidders!  Using fake accounts to bid against real users is a cut-and-dry scam operation, and some of our competitors are clearly using them.

In case you didn’t follow… any website using the FeistySites auction software MUST have redeveloped the software on their own accord if they are actually running a genuine penny auction site and not auto bidding their own auctions.  The FeistySites development team has put on a clear display of poor programming techniques and complete disregard to efficiency, security, and ethics.

We thank everyone for their kind understanding and patience while we worked hard to repair everything.  We are continually improving the site and if anyone experiences problems or has any kind of feedback, please contact us at support@zoozle.com.  We will be watching auctions closely to ensure that things go smoothly.
